Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): This article pursues to define “Vrâncean obștea nowadays. In the context of successive changes of property law in Romania and the major difficulties in the process of reestablishing property rights over the forests, we need a clear definition of obștea vrânceană as it is today comparing with the archaic form studied by Professor Henri H. Stahl, the form defined today as being obștea in sociological dictionary. This study encompasses three segments defining obștea vrânceană from juridical, organizational and institutional point of view. The difficult part consists in separating organizational part from the institutional one. How does obștea react as an organization and what does the institution of obștea means today? What do we study: a new form of common property developed after the law 1/2000 and the emergence of new social relations; the remains of an archaic social form, that manifest themselves through a reestablished use right; or the transformation of an institution that responds to other purposes by using the same constitutive elements like in the past? I will illustrate in the following pages that the contemporary obștea preserves the old major elements, adapted to a new context, and those define an institution more than just a simple organization.

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): This essay promotes the idea that the present-day obsession of the Security Files War is a good opportunity for developing sociological theory. I argue that Romania has created an absolute innovation regarding “public confessions and vulnerability to blackmail. Last but not least, current political, legal and institutional developments centered on the Security files investigation are not just a mere institutional practice they are the core of a new, oppressive society, which has not been experimented before. The main feature of this type of society is the fact that the social system oppresses a population by continually pressuring it to feel guilty. The question remains, whether we want to live in such a society.

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The Distance Learning (DL) a new form of education for the Romanian universities has become in just a few years a feasible as well as attractive alternative for those who want to acquire a superior professional training. The establishing of departments for DL in many institutions of academic education has produced a genuine boom in the academic community if we only take into consideration the significant increase of the number of students and also the emergence of new means of transmitting the information and of formation of professional abilities. Inherently, there have arisen problems as well, such as that of ensuring the quality of the learning process, problem discussed from the very beginning. Beyond the fast and imperative adaptation of the teachers’ labour to the specificity of the DL, a matter of equal importance is the recognition of the beliefs, attitudes and behaviour of these non-traditional students. This constitutes the starting point as well as the objective of this research, and in order to achieve that we resorted to the methodology of the qualitative sociology, which enables the researcher to understand better the people within the social and cultural context which they inhabit.
