Un punct de vedere asupra structurii de clasă actuale din România
A Point of View on the Present Class Structure in Romania
Laureana Urse
Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): In the beginning of the 90s, after clarifying the political and economical objectives, the postcommunist reforms were started in Romania. At the same time, the process of class restructuration began, and it is still in progress at present. This process consists in the transformation of the old social classes (peasantry and the workers), the consitution of new social classes (the upper class, the middle class and the lower class) and a new hierarchization of the social classes. To analyze the new class structure, its necessary to assess the communist inheritance from the point of view of the class structure and also to clarify the theoretical premises of approaching the class structure, adapted to the Romanian specificity. It is also necessary to analyze the postcommunist changes in general and the ones with a direct effect on the formation of the new class structure. I consider that now in Romania the class structure in formation is composed of the upper class, the middle class, the lower class, the peasantry and the workers. The new social classes (the upper class, the middle class and the lower class) are in different stages of constitution: the upper class is in the most advanced stage, while the lower class is the less developed because of the extended poverty as a result of the economic crisis in the Romanian society. The old social classes are gaining right now a new identity (the peasantry), or they are in an identity crisis (the workers). The detailed analysis of these problems is the subject of the present article.

Schimbarea socială în colectivitățile rurale și efectele ei asupra mentalităților (o analiză de sociologie regională)
Social Change in Rural Communities and Its Effects on Mentalities (A Regional Sociological Analysis)
Carmen Bulzan
Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The village life after 1989 has changed. Being liable to some processes that weren't familiar to it (collectivization, urbanization, reformation), by legislative, administrative and political ways, a redirection to something else, an abolition of what it was and desperately wants to be something else these were always tried. The circumstances are always, always changing... Another order is subtly, perversly infiltrating in a world that still keeps the tracks of the authentic and the unbroken. The Romanian villager, oscillating between being an owner (alone) but also (together) with others, with the community to which he belongs, is changing step by step his customs: of producing, of consuming, of living, transforming them, maybe just apparently but not fundamentally. He remains anchored to the collective mental of his traditions and customs, which he gives up only circumstantially. Another world of values is revealed to him, a world at which he can affiliate only formally. The village world gathers nowadays two worlds: an apparent one and an essential one. A glissando of the „inherited” world towards the „real” one in which he has been thrown against his will and from which one does not known yet what it is to be born. Between hope and connection, between desire and unacceptance, between faith and salvation, between dream and reality lays the world of the post-revolutionary village in the Mehedinți county.

Sistemul mediatic și sfera politică
Media and the Political Sphere
Gheorghe Fulga
Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The political attitudes of individuals and social groups are influenced by their daily connection to the new mass media. This separates the individuals who have acces to multiple information sources in the „global network” from those who have at their disposal only a limited number of options, predefined by their social status and national belonging.

Importanța legăturilor slabe în migrație
The Importance of Weak Links in Migration
Monica Constantinescu
Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The paper analyzes the problem of the development mechanism of the international migration at a community level. Some empirical observations cumulated during several researches, in the origin and the destination areas, regarding Romanians' migration to Spain constitute the starting points. Relying on the distinction introduced by Mark Granovetter in 1976 between weak and strong ties, we find that, if initially migration develops almost exclusively on the basis of social relations that could be assimilated to strong ties, there is a moment in the process development when the departures based on weak ties, with important consequences on the migrant's situation at destination, increase. The paper tries to clarify, mainly invoking theoretical arguments, to what extent the departures based on weak migrant - non-migrant ties are a normal phase in the process of international migration development at a community level. The study concludes that, because of the cumulative effects, the evolution of migration to a phase when the departures based on weak ties appear is explainable. Two mechanisms mainly contribute to this result: the enhancement of incentives to migrate (because the quantitative and the qualitative information increase; the visibility of the effects of migration in the origin area; changes of the relative deprivation at a community level) and the lowering of the costs and risk associated to migration having as a consequence the reduction of the effective support that a non-migrant needs from a migrant in order to migrate.

Încredere și toleranță față de alte națiuni sau etnii. Cercetare comparativă asupra tinerilor din România și Ungaria
Trust and Tolerance towards Other Nationalities or Ethnic Groups. A Comparative Research on the Youth Population in Romania and Hungary
Ioana Petre
Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The paper presents some of the main issues characterizing the attitudes of the Romanian and Hungarian youth towards other nations and ethnical groups. The most spectacular or only the significant similarities and differences between the young people living in the two countries mentioned above concerning the confidence and tolerance for ethnical minorities of their own countries and other nations are pointed out. Beyond the ethno-civic unifying characteristics there are some specific ones. Thus, the Romanian youth could be associated with a high level of tolerance and inter-ethnic confidence, unlike the Hungarian youth, more distrustful about „aliens”, meaning other people, ethnical minorities in their own country, including immigrants. Another important aspect resulting from this comparative study regards the mutual attitude of the Romanian and the Hungarian young people, a huge perception deficit of the Hungarian youth concerning the Romanians. Finaly, the self-knowledge - as a main value - of one's own nation seems to be at much higher levels as far as the Hungarian youth is concerned in comparison with the Romanians.
