What is Dimitrie Gusti's heritage for the post-bellum sociology?

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The author evaluates the influence of the Dimitrie Gustis scientific personality on the Romanian sociology and society, in four main aspects. One direction refers to the constitution of sociology as a science in Romania, with international prestige and abroad national involvement. The second direction refers to the creation of sociology as a science of the nation, with the mission of creating self-knowledge in the Romanian society and to further social modernization. This led to a dominantly descriptive and empirical orientation of sociology, based though on a high-level theoretical conception. This orientation contributed to the development of the Romanian sociology in the heavily ideological communist period. The third direction of influence refers to the involvement of sociology in the social reform, which persisted after 1945. The fourth direction refers to the creation of a strong sociological school, which managed to survive the instauration of the communist regime, this school being modeled on the antebellum achievements.

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The article focuses on D. Gustis personality and activity of creating the system of the sociological monography, further used as an analytical basis for the direct field research in the villages. The study points to the fact that the Gustian sociological system is an original, creative synthesis of some of the most important European scientific contributions, especially German, French and Romanian. A more comprehensive image of the Gustis performance has been structured into two directions: sociological causality, especially the low of sociological parallelism, and the interdisciplinary principle.

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The article analyzes the original scientific contribution of professor H.H. Stahl in two main directions: building and consolidating the Bucharest Sociological School led by D. Gusti, on the one hand, and founding his original framework for the historical sociology which goes beyond the sociological monograph. The author highlights new data from the intellectual biography of the historian and sociologist H.H. Stahl, and evaluations concerning and the historical and contemporary significance of his contributions to the codification of the sociological monograph technique, his contributions to the elaboration of the exemplary sociological monograph of Nerej village (Vrancea), and to the construction of a new paradigm of historical analysis based on social archaeology.

Anton Golopenția and the new „science of reality”. The sociological pillar of interbellum Romanian geopolitics

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): Anthropogeography, geopolitics, the dialogue and the polemics opposing sociology and geography are central elements in the process of imagining the national space during the interwar period. A dense network of competitions, alliances and counter-alliances is coming together in this area of scientific legitimacy and representativity. The birth of this new disciplinary subdomain offers us the chance to track down the external influences, to see how the central scientific canon(s) are replicated and transformed at the periphery and how the Romanian culture finds itself synchronized with the dilemmas, themes and tensions of the European culture. This synchronicity occurs it is one of the theses of this paper under the sign of reactionary modernism. This perspective has the ability to question the uniqueness of the process of modernization. Is modernity a package deal or are there other ways of spelling modernity? This appropriation of the reactionary modernism discourse for the analysis of Romanian anthropogeography and sociology is, in itself, an example of translating/transforming scientific discourses on a central-perifery axis.
