Viziunea despre lume în satul Tilişca (judeţul Sibiu)
The Worldview in Tilişca Village (Sibiu County)
Marin Constantin
Abstract: The paper consists of an approach of the value orientations in the village of Tilişca (the county of Sibiu), from the perspective of the responses received to a proverb questionnaire conceived by Gheorghiţă Geană. The categories of analysis of such responses reproduce the scheme of the „human basic problems” which Florence R. Kluckhohn defined as a modality of characterising the „modal personality” at the level of little communities. The anthropological study of the worldview can be relevant for the general (monographic) analysis of a social group, in completing the social and economic data about that group.

"Filozofia medie". Studiul concepţiilor despre fericire şi iubire prin anchete sociologice cantitative
„The Average Philosophy”. Using Quantitative Survey Data to Study Common Theories on Happiness and Love
Cosima Rughiniş*
*University of Bucharest
Abstract: The article explores the possibility to analyse common life philosophies through quantitative sociological surveys. Two such surveys are used to see whether people’s conceptions about hardship and happiness, and about marriage and happiness, seem to be generally valid in the population, and how they are influenced by one’s own life experiences. The analysis suggests that these common theories are good descriptions of the social reality – with two significant exceptions regarding religious faith and poverty. Connections between experience and life philosophies may be twofold: compensatory and moralizing. The former underestimates the importance of a given factor in influencing happiness, while the latter overestimates it.

Accesul la educaţie al maghiarilor din România. O analiză multivariată
Access to Education of Hungarians from Romania. A Multivariate Analysis
Adrian Hatos, Krisztina Bernath
Abstract: During the transition period, the topic of Hungarian university-level higher education in Romania has been very intensely debated as its polemic has been often characterized by ethnicist and nationalist arguments. One major issue of the debate is, however, that, in Romania, Hungarians have lower chances of access at tertiary education than the Romanian citizens. The present study aims to clarify the situation of the distribution and the covariates of educational, and subsequently social, chances among citizens of Romanian and Hungarian ethnicity in Romania. Using the consolidated data of the Romanian Public Opinion Barometer of 1998-2004 (N = 11 040) our multivariate analyses start from three models of the status achievement: the ethnic determination model, the social reproduction model and the structural mobility model.

Impactul schimbărilor în structura populaţiei României asupra sistemului de securitate socială
The Impact of Changes in the Romanian Population Structure on the Social Security System
Marian Preda
*University of Bucharest
Abstract: This paper aims to emphasize the social and economic consequences of population/ demographic decisions and changes in the past, present and future Romania. Issues such as population ageing, demographic dependency, and fertility rate decline are starting points for analysing population structure’s influence upon social protection, with a special focus on public pension system. Opportunities and problems faced by three "generations" born in three different periods while entering in various components of social protection system - education, labor market and retirement - are presented from a comparative perspective. In order to emphasize the complexity of the described issues, sub-national differences in population structure and access to social protection are analysed and huge territorial/geographical disparities between various entities within Romania are described.
