Abstract: In recent years, Romania is facing an explosion in the number of injecting drug users (IDU). Young injecting drug users are considered a group of high risk for HIV infection, which cannot be ignored by the public policies. The research aimed at evaluating the risk behaviours of these young people, being the first time when Respondent-Driven Sampling (RDS) is used in Romania. The quantitative research has been supplemented by a qualitative research, aiming at better understanding and describing the risk behaviours. The main subjects/dimensions included in the research have been related to the risk associated with drug use, sexual risk behaviours, procurement of clean/safe injecting equipment, knowledge on HIV/AIDS, interactions with the police and the authorities, access to services. Based on the results of the research, recommendations for changes of social policies are included.

Abstract: This article reviews some of the studies based on current field research in Romania. These studies seem to fall into two categories. The first one consists of research using anthropological concepts and theories, but focused on processes and groups in Romania. The most common topics are: migration; natural resources administration and changes of property rights; ethnic groups; markets, exchange, shopping and consumption; gender, body and the status of women. The second group gathers research carried out by researchers from Romania on cultural spaces outside Romania. Numerically fewer, such texts dealt with Romanian communities abroad, clothing and culture or religious processes.

Keywords: Claude Lévi-Strauss, populations archaïques, structure, mythe, style, musique.

Cuvinte-cheie: Claude Lévi-Strauss, populaţii arhaice, structură, mit, stil, muzică.

Abstract: In this article sociocultural implications of shame and honour are analysed. A few dimensions have been brought into discussion: male vs female honour, the significance of the terms marianismo and machismo in Latino cultures, sharaf and ‘ird in Arab societies, the meaning of shame and family control, and the importance of the Greek concept philótimo along with value change perceptions. Cross-cultural studies have demonstrated that individuals discuss the honour taking into consideration expressions as family values, social prestige maintainance, self-respect, individual achievements or independence from family. Furthermore, shame and honour may be perceived as two emblematically cultural concepts. If the first became a social control factor in many situations, the second one remains as an „icon” of individual identity and a main characteristic of social norms and values a persons could embrace.

Keywords: honor cultures, shame, philótimo, traditionalism, honor killing.

Cuvinte-cheie: culturi ale onoarei, ruşine, philótimo, tradiţionalism, crima săvârşită în numele onoarei.
