Rezumat în limba engleză: Digital games are a complex social and technological phenomenon that is situated in cultures and societies. Current academic efforts in the field of digital games analyze the realities of the Western countries, where the market on digital games is highly developed. This paper focuses on the specificities of the Eastern European gaming culture and examines the market of digital games in Romania and Bulgaria. An online survey is carried out and the results show that Romanian and Bulgarian players are mostly men, live in metropolis (over 100,000 inhabitants) and are mostly young people aged 21-25 or teenagers. National games are known and played in very low proportions, game-players from Romania and Bulgaria preferring imported games. The authors hope that this first initiative to study gaming habits and preferences of Romanian gamers will bring digital games to the attention of academic researchers in Romania.

Abstract: Without any doubt, the Programme .Sibiu . European Cultural Capital 2007. was an important mechanism for the local tourism, but also for the cultural and socio-economic development of the city. The increase of visibility of Sibiu (and of Romania, too) on international level, together with the economical rise, due to the high flow of tourists, had contributed to the rise of the community spirit and civic responsability. The impact of this programme at local level proves the importance of cultural policies in communities, especially if they are implemented with the help of some useful strategies of cultural marketing.

Keywords: cultural politics, cultural marketing, urban development, civic responsability, urban and cultural infrastructure.

Cuvinte-cheie: politici culturale, marketing cultural, dezvoltare urbană, responsabilitate civică, infrastructură culturală şi urbanistică.

Abstract: Environmental sociology frequently accentuates the role of active citizenship and civic involvement in the prevention of ecological problems, respectively problem-solving. Two ways in which active environmental citizenship can manifest itself are represented by the passive or active (volunteering) participation in environmental organizations (NGOs). In fact, such behaviors illustrate specific manifestations of the formal (associative) social capital, and from a political point of view circumscribe one important arena of environmental governance. There exist important contributions related to the case of formal social capital, however those studies investigating the case of participation in environmental associations are less frequent, at least in terms of exploring the social, demographic, axiological, political, etc. profiles of the participants. The present research aims to realize an individual-level study in this regard: based on data provided by the European Values Survey 1999 (Europe) and European Values Survey/Public Opinion Barometer, autumn 2005 (Romania) the profile of participants and volunteers in environmental NGOs will be explored.

Keywords: environmental organisations, participation, social capital, environmental attitudes.

Cuvinte-cheie: organizaţii de protecţie a mediului, participare, capital social, atitudini faţă de mediul înconjurător.

Abstract: This article analyses the essentialist-constructivist debate in the field of the theories of collective identities. First the author identifies the main assumptions of the identity conceptions in both perspectives, their common traits and their critics. Then it is argued that the relation between the essentialist theories of identity and the constructivist ones should be seen rather as of hybridization than of opposition. Considering this, a working definition and a methodological way of analysing the collective identity concept is proposed.
