Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The measures for regional and local development are increasingly significant roles, more than the beginning with the 1990s, by the transformation processes of the system had earned more urban area than rural space. Only in the course of accession to the EU, the issue of rural area won the attention of decision-makers. Simultaneously with these adjustment processes have also occurred the porblem of global sustainable development, which are specific characteristics, at the local, community and individual level. Although the methodological speaking, addressing the issue of sustainable local development has no equivalent scientific degree of refining surveys very recent, the immediately interest to Romania is, on the one hand, the complete diagnosis of the complex dimensions of sustainable rural development, and on the other hand, the identification of the priority directions of corrective action of the economic and social disparities, existing within and between rural and urban areas. In this respect, this approach proposes, on the basis of adequate methodological justification, to identify opportunities and constraints of rural development in a rural area, consisting of four municipalities of the Argeş county, from a many criteria perspective (demography, sources of income, agricultural land use, etc.), in order to formulate the feasible alternatives for sustainable local development.

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The reconversion of industrial buildings has become a common practice in urban landscapes, due to cultural changes that have occurred in post-industrial societies. However, the need to restore the space that once represented an economic path for self sustainability has generated a new demand for reuse and rehabilitation. By keeping the industrial specificity of the place and adding a new purpose, the industrial landscape is changing from an unused and degraded environment into the city’s heritage. According to the project’s initiators, the reconversion of the Water Plant is an excuse for the regeneration of the surrounding industrial space, thus reviving the city and promoting new spatial practices among its inhabitants. Therefore it has an enormous potential in reshaping the city map. The subject of this case study, the Water Plant in Suceava, has certain particular characteristics derived from its history and its geographical position. The Water Plant was build 100 years ago, during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It represented an important step towards the urbanization of the city, due to its main utility of providing drinking water to its inhabitants. Over time, other modern system of water filtration replaced the plant leaving the building without a clear purpose. Nowadays, the building has been reconverted into a Centre for Architecture, Urban Culture and Landscape, representing a step forward towards postindustrial society.

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): This paper investigates the mechanisms through which pupils reach educational success from the perspective of the chances they face along school trajectories. Recent research conducted on Romania as well as personal analyses confirm the fact that the transition between 8th and 9 th grade, produce homogenization of pupils populations across schools. We can identify differences regarding school achievements of pupils grouped in different types of schools. Data suggest the presence of social reproduction process through the effects of the measures of educational and material capitals of parents, but especially manifested on the levels of status aspirations seen as the influence of school aspirations for accessing higher education as well as the levels of school engagement. In the present paper we propose an explorative analysis regarding the modeling of aspirations towards accessing school trajectories. We identified the factors that explain the orientation of pupils towards theoretical high-schools and national colleges on the one hand, or technical colleges and other technical profile schools. Data suggest the presence of a mechanism of inter generational reproduction of status aspirations. The major factors that influence the accession of certain educational paths are the pupils’ aspirations towards a higher education career, and the material capitals of the family. The social reproduction process is highlighted by the persistence of the influence of inherited capitals. Nevertheless we need to emphasize the fact that accessing school trajectories is made depending on material capitals, along with the educational results on the official exams and this is influenced by the families’ educational capitals.
