Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The majority of researchers, regardless of their preoccupations and interests, accept the fact that during the last decades of the 20th century the family” has modified not only its form and content, but also the significance related to the social changes supported by the contemporary societies, especially the western ones. Thus, nowadays the term covers a varied reality, transgressing the traditional features. In the recent decades, the alternative styles to the family life have been more and more discussed, starting with the celibacy and ending with the consensual union. The present article proposes a comparative analysis regarding concubinage by comparison with marriage, cohabitation being seen as an alternative to marriage or as the final phase of engagement. An objective approach of the cohabitation phenomenon proves the existence of clear differences among the couples that live together without having solid plans to legalize their relationship and those that intend to legalize their relationship through marriage. The study focuses on this distinction by relating to common elements with marriage as the existence of sexual life and living together in a common space.

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The following text is constituted as a Christian spiritualist methodology applied to the historical and contemporary study of the family institution. Portrayed as a moral community by sociology’s classics, then imagined as an institution of decreasing importance by their modern and postmodern followers, family can now be reevaluated in its sociological importance only from a sociology seen through the eyes of faith perspective.

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The article wants to present the main aspects about the roles in the reconstituted family, the frequency of which increases in our society, in which at least one member of the couple was married before. I refer to the status and the role of the stepmather and stepfather, to the difficulty of family adaptation which all the family members meet. A special attention must be payed to the brothers, to the alliances or conflicts among them. The paper refers to the social relations of this kind of family (with the origin family, ex-partners and the social network). It is important to know the characteristics of this vulnerable family, to understand its difficulties.
