Emotions from the perspective of social exchange theory. A discussion on the "satisfaction-power" relationship in social interaction

Abstract: From the perspective of bringing emotions into social exchange the productivity of social ties within the interaction depends on the satisfaction of social actors. Satisfaction is an affective answer to a cognitive evaluation of the exchange relation, based on how "good" or "bad" the actor judges the relation to be. That's why the attention should be focused on the following aspects: 1) The variation of "social exchange-satisfaction" relation taking into consideration the base of power (reward or punishment); 2) Analyzing and explaining global emotions considering the social units (networks, groups); 3) Possible connections between specific emotions tied to social objects and the result of the attribution process.

Being in control by taking voluntary risk in contemporary society

Abstract: The paper analysis a paradox of contemporary society: on the one hand the society stresses out on actions that protect citizens' life and welfare and offers security, and on the other hand we are witnesses to an increased number of people who choose to take voluntary risks in spare time activities, willing to escape of the normative frame of organizations and institutions they are forced to be part of. The number of individuals who accept the challenges of the extreme sports or of the activities who put their life in danger has been increasing during past years, especially when society values people who take controlled risks and those who can challenge their limits willing to achieve more. In this context, we conduct 10 in-depth interviews with people involved in physical risk activities: motor-cycle riding, parachutism, and mountaineering. The results proved that subjects have experienced a profound need to take control of their lives and to develop their potential as a reaction to an excessive birocratic and consumerist society that alienates individuals to the products of their work. Finding themselves in a society they believe they are not able to control anymore, individuals make an escape in practicing those sports or those activities that value their potentialand re-establish the feeling of control.

Interactional order and emotions. Homo sentiens from the perspective of dramaturgical sociology

Abstract: In this article, I analyse the implications of dramaturgic sociology approach for the study of emotions. In order to do that, I focus on the goffmanian vision of social order, seen as "interactional order". Dramaturgic sociology helps studying emotions in that: 1) it allows approaching emotions as sui generis facts; 2) it sets up a relation between self presentation process and social expression of emotions; 3) it is suitable to the analysis of negative emotions such as embarassment and shame; 4) it allows further analysis of emotions management strategies in interactional contexts.

Problematica victimelor din spaţiul familial care apelează la serviciile de medicină legală
Issues concerning victims within the family who resort to services of legal medicine

Abstract: The study mentions some of the results of the investigations carried out between 2006 and 2008, under the auspices of the Social and Psychological Assistance Unit at the National Institute of Legal Medicine "Mina Minovici", unit founded as result of the unwinding of a program focused on the family environment violence. Starting from the premise that the family violence acts are the results of the action of some individual, relational, community, societal but also situational factors, the research, at the level of the 379 victims included in the investigation area, has underlined a series of aspects on the particularities of the victims and of the aggressors involved in the violence acts which have determined them to contact the medico legal services. The methodology used has allowed identifying the risk factors which favor the production of the violence acts, the particularities of the victims who appeal to legal medicine services and the made up of some suggestions regarding the intervention ways in order to prevent the violence acts in the family environment.

"Progressivity of sociability" in two penal systems. The institution of progressive completion of incarceration

Abstract: This study analyses punishment execution in prison of two penal law systems: that of 1937 and that of 2006 (Law 275). I outline the contradictions between the rationality of the prison as an institution and the rationality of the society outside this institution. This contradiction generates a paradox of the penitentiary institution: preparing individuals for freedom through freedom deprivation. To understand the social prisoners' career I propose the concept of sociability progressiveness, which means that the convicts' progressive recovery of the capacity to live in society (as the official purpose of the punishment states) is marked by the progressive recovery of the capacity to live in the convicts' world.
