Abstract: Studying community is very common in current Romanian academic and non-academic research. For instance, assessing the impact of most development projects requires the study of the potentially affected communities, both before, during and after the implementation of the project. Community studies suppose the manipulation of both qualitative and quantitative data, and often require complex activities of data collection and validating. This research note addresses few practical issues for carrying the fieldwork during in rural communities. We do not discuss much about designing and the methodological aspects of such research, but we focus on the difficulties, risks and potential success strategies during data collecting.

Keywords: community research, fieldwork, mixed methods.

On the trail of the Romanian Linguistic Atlas we were interested about the populations speaking idioms and dialects of Romanian language spread beyond the borders. The main purpose of the Romanian Ethnographic Atlas is to highlight the ethnographic values of the historical communities outside borders of Romania. In this respect, Romanian Ethnographic Atlas questionnaires will have beeing applied, choosing the pilot municipalities from the Romanian communities abroad. On this project probably will work two or three generations of ethnographers. Abstract: Many researchers consider that involvement in collective action, as defined by rational choice theorists, can be hardly explained without some appeal to cultural or psychological factors. This article discusses the results of a qualitative inquiry into the narratives of three types of actors of small urban community, including leaders of community organizations, active participants in collective actions, and the by-standers. It finds systematic differences in the stories provided by representatives of the three groups whose members have significantly different perspectives in terms of self-description and motivation for action. Therefore, we argue that explanations of individuals' availability for collective action based on social psychology and culturalist narratives should be taken into consideration.

Abstract: Lately, the concept of partnership has been widely used in local development strategies and programs, being one of the principles underlying these documents. This paper aims to study the role that partnership plays in the local development process, in order to see whether the importance attached to this principle in the development strategies and programs is suitable, and secondly to determine if the partnership that goes beyond a single community has a more significant effect on development. More specifically, the purpose of this paper is to describe how this partnerships functions in Romania, to identify the type of partnership that brings benefit for the community and the factors contributing to success or failure of such an approach.
