An Assessment of Social Mobility in the Rural European Space

Abstract: This article makes an evaluation regarding the processes of social mobility in rural European areas comparing with dynamics reaches in rural Romanian space. There are also exposes the main characteristics of the sociological approach in Europe and in Romania during the last five decades. Both rural European and rural Romanian areas had an evolution with upside-down regarding social mobility, all tendencies being function of socioeconomical development in those spaces. In Romania, as in many others Central and Eastern European countries the beginning of 90s comes with a sociopolitical fracture having a great influence on many social processes, including on social mobility.

Nationality and Philosophy. Some Preliminary Observations

Abstract: The protean quality of nationality - the variability of its historical expressions - poses methodological and philosophical problems that likely account for much of the scholarly dispute over what and when is the nation. The primary difficulty is coming to terms with the centrality of meaning in the constitution of human associations which, in turn, poses difficulties for the historical, sociological and anthropological investigation of collective self-consciousness, requiring its own analytical approaches. Those approaches to the meaning born by symbols include renewed attention to representation, territory, and myth.

Emotions in Social Life. Shame and Guilt in Postcommunist Public Space in Romania

Abstract: In this article I present some aspects of social life in Romania which support the thesis that emotions are socially determined. I will present theoretical and empirical proofs that shame and guilt are distinct social emotions, organically intertwined. I advance a "psychosociological typology of shame" and I support the reconceptualization of "spiral of silence theory". I also mention the alienation of "emotional proletariat" in modern societies. Based on the axiom that prior to being sapiens, homo was sentiens and also on the fact that in real time emotions are primordial, I formulate several suggestions for the future research of social life and action.
