Emotions from the point of view of social exchange

Abstract: Social exchange theory assumes that individual goals are achieved by self-interested actors through transacting with other social actors. Because social exchange regards interaction among people and the behavior they display in those circumstances, our paper is concerned with analyzing the role of emotions in social exchange, illustrating how these ideas bear on the context, process and outcomes of exchange. Therefore, we analyze the relevance of theories of emotions in social exchange, the relationship between emotions and social exchange considering emotions both dependent and independent variables, emotions and the work place (negotiation of intellectual exchange), the emotions produced by status (the negotiation of social exchange from the perspective of status theories), providing specific suggestions for developing links between theories of emotion and theories of social exchange.

Explicit ethnography in the anthropological study of Tilisca village (Sibiu county 1997-1999)

Abstract: The article is describing and interpreting the experience of a fieldwork pursued in 1997-1999, in the village of Tilişca (the county of Sibiu). The author presents several ethnographic situations (including his participation to a local Orthodox ritual, his relationships with the village authorities, a vernacular biographic narrative, his participant observation of the pastoral life, and the ethnographic usage of camera), which are equally relevant in defining a research topic, and in the accessibility conditions the researcher faces when approaching such a topic. The text argues on the need for making explicit the ethnographic stage of a social research, in that the inherent inter-subjectivity of such a research should be methodologically undertaken and exploited, on the theoretical ground of cultural anthropology.

New technologies for ethno-nationalist imagining. The case of Moldavian Csangos

Abstract: The Csangos are a hard to define ethnic/religious minority. They have been rather recently recognized and instituted as a minority. According to the 2002 census, the recorded number of declared Csangos was of 769. There is a huge discrepancy between these figures and the ones used by some scholars from 70.000 to 100.000 that cannot be dismissed as just the result of technical counting problems and even less of scholarly (dis)honesty. This paper tries to delve on the possibility conditions for imagining the Csangos through new global communication technologies.
