From Crangeni - Teleorman to Spain: antreprenoriat, adventism and circulatory migration

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): The aim of this study is to point out the significance of some social structure aspects at community level and the cognitive and cultural orientation provided by religious affiliation at individual level with respect to international migration, viewed from the theoretical perspective of action. The spatial reference is Crângeni, a village of about 3000 inhabitants, located in the South of Romania (Teleorman County) In this village, the international migration represents a new behavioral pattern directly related to individuals' religious affiliation to the Adventist church. If in the past the young Adventists chosen to stay in Crângeni and occupy key position in the village economy, in keeping with their religious community norms, today, looking for economic opportunities, they are migrating to Spain. In the sense that they have the capacity to filter the community evaluations and to advance non-normative behaviors that finally are accepted and taken over by others, migrants become entrepreneurs. The economical motivation of migration becomes compatible with formal religious precepts, the last representing a starting point for diverse associations within networks and/or for informal aims. "The problem" of Adventists migrants is in fact to harmonize public behavior, relevant in the Adventist community with that familial-private one.

Mobility strategies in Sancrai - Hunedoara

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): This article intends to describe the changes of migrational flows in the last forty years (from the perspective of the presence / absence, volume and direction) in Călan area in the Hunedoara county. In order to point out this dynamic we have depicted the phenomena of territorial mobility in five different moments, which correspond to some important structural changes (collectivization, industrialisation, land reform, the possibility to emigrate, growing unemployment rate) Our premise is that an efficient method for identifying the particularities of a region is to thoroughly analyse the specific of a community belonging to that area. As a consequence, the field research focused on Sâncrai village which orbits mainly around the town Călan (the community was chosen, according to the principle of exemplarity, for its significance in perceiving the area in its entire, real functionality). The collected data are being confronted and completed with quantitative information (the quest was completed by the people of two other localities - the Călan town and the village Strei).

Opinion polls and ellections

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): 2000 election year in Romania freed passions and debates on public opinion polls never seen before. As political actors are getting more and more professional by incorporating social studies in their making decision process, the consequences of polls became crucial within a competitive environment with winners and losers. On the one hand the natural "illiteracy" of politicians or journalist in sampling and interviewing bring about some public misinterpretation of polls' results. On the other hand, the sociologists or pollsters spent little time introducing lay people with basic principles of their work or formulating simple rules of reading polls' results. Moreover, less effort has been invested during the last ten years into dedicated studies to measure or prove the effects of public opinion polls on voting behavior in Romania. Some people simply take into account Western professional findings on this issue. This article is trying to pay more attention to common mistakes in reading polls and also to study the effects of polls reporting on voting behavior - both changing preferences and mobilization to vote. Some conclusions on the famous bandwagon or underdog effects in Romania might really strike the one who found about them from the Western scientific literature.

The household between neighborhood and kinship

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): This article is trying to bring in discussion the problem of the social institution of the Neighborhood, the problem was opened by some articles and papers (look at the bibliography quoted on the theme of the Neighborhoods) In this theme is included the present existence of this social organization and the process of changes that pass through this institution along time.
We try also to question the relationship between the neighborhood and the kinship, due to the fact that these two concepts don`t belong to the same discursive field, we try to figure out what unites and what separates them in a particular social space, in the communities and in the villages where there are Neighborhoods.
Our try has the purpose to discover one of the main factors which permitted the co-existence of these two types of social relation, the neighborhood and the kinship.

Dinamica percepției sociale a privatizării întreprinderilor de stat
The dynamics of social perception of the privatization of state owned companies

Abstract (Rezumat în limba engleză): This article presents some of the most significant results from several studies dedicated to privatization of state-owned enterprises. Here are some important aspects focused in this article: a) updating information about perceptions on economic reform up to 2002, specifically: social perceptions on privatization, perceptions on privatization pace, public opinion on the conditions of inefficient state enterprises; b) determining the main social effects of privatization, both positive and negative; c) people participation to the national program of mass privatization. The source of data is represented by CURS polls carried out after 1990 using national representative samples. The analysis tried to evidence main opinions of interviewees not only at the national level, but also on regions.
