Abstract: Over the two decades post-Revolution, the evolution of juvenile delinquency in Romania was influenced both by the emergence of new "risk" factors, such as: lack of jobs, poverty of the population, increasing families with 'problems' and the number of abandoned children, intensification of destructuring of traditional families, changing family model promoted by society, decresing the role of social institutions involved in the formation of young personality, and as well the ineffective system for reintegrating juvenile offenders, through the abolition of institutions included in this system. In this paper, we intend to make a diagnosis of the phenomenon of juvenile delinquency, in the county Caras-Severin, focused mainly on crimes of theft, and identifying the most effective measures for the prevention of this phenomenon. In this sense, after we make a brief review of the main explanatory paradigm of juvenile delinquency, we first identify criminogenic individual factors, family and relational involved in juvenile delinquency identified in the county Caras-Severin, then based on analyzes and statistical correlations, we establish relations between criminal elements identified, and then finally we try to develop a predictive model of risk factors in committing acts of theft. Based on the findings, we identify several intervention measures that can be applied in the county Caras-Severin, to prevent and reduce juvenile delinquency.

Keywords: juvenile delinquency; delinquent behavior; offenses; theft; psychiatric expertise; judgment.

Cuvinte-cheie: delincvenţă juvenilă; comportamente delincvente; fapte penale; furt; expertiză psihiatrică; discernământ.

Abstract: For most people, media are an important source of information about mental health. Inadequate coverage of mental illness may have a negative impact on public attitudes toward consumers of mental health services. The aim of this article is to identify the content and quality of newspaper articles reporting on schizophrenia. Articles between 2008 and 2011 were analyzed (N=79). First, we used a frame of reference for identifying depictions of schizophrenia in newspapers, proposed by Knifton et al. (2008). Second, after analyzing several media guidelines for reporting on schizophrenia, we derived key indicators of quality reporting, including labels, trivialization of illness and unbalanced storyline. The results show that there were more negative themes than positive ones. Moreover, while the percentage of the dangerousness theme (38%) was higher than the overall percentage of positive themes (22%), discrimination was the least debated issue (6%). In regard to labels, the most prevalent (63%) had a low level of political correctness (“mentally ill”, “mental patient”). The stories were unbalanced, portraying persons with schizophrenia as victims of the illness and as offenders. It appears that the media take a more negative stance towards schizophrenia, spreading a distorted image of people with schizophrenia, which might contribute to stigma.

Keywords: stigma; politically correct labels; media frames; quality reporting.

Cuvinte-cheie: stigmă; etichete corecte din punct de vedere politic; cadru media; calitatea reportajului.

Abstract: This paper discusses pregnancy in adolescents in Mexico, as it is a matter of great concern for different social actors. Scant literature and studies include first-hand information about the needs and desires of adolescents concerning their sexuality and reproductive health. This paper gives account of these voices of urban marginal young women, allowing a better insight of the complexity and the meanings that has pregnancy and adolescent motherhood. Qualitative methodology has been used to gather important information about experience that pregnant adolescents had concerning issues related with their own development as pregnant young women. In order to develop posterior semi-structured interviews, and to avoid conceptual and wording misunderstandings, focus groups were carried out to explore the meanings of ‘official’ and ‘private’ language about pregnancy in adolescence. Pregnant adolescents’ voices revealed, and strongly stressed, the cultural shaping of the ‘feminine’ nature for reproduction and maternity, and therefore, pregnancy acquired particular values, more precious than other social activities. Pregnancy acts as a trigger for these adolescents to decide either to marry or to live in ‘free union’. In fact, pregnancy is a factor that strongly compels that decision. No matter what social and individual difficulties they have to face, they are widely justified by becoming ‘a mother’, that is considered and desired by them as the better status for a woman. Reproductive health policies fail in diminishing adolescent fertility rate. They need to address adolescent population based on, and including, gender contents and young women’s sexual and reproductive rights.

Keywords: adolescent women; pregnancy; reproductive health; culture.

Cuvinte-cheie: adolescente; sarcină; sănătatea reproducerii; cultură.
